About Me

Dan’s journey began with adventurous hikes to Balfour Waterfalls, then the longest cave in Mauritius, and up the rugged slopes of Corps de Garde Mountain. Over the years, his curiosity led him deeper into the wilderness, guiding him to explore more than 125 waterfalls across the Black River Gorges and surrounding regions. Many of these spots are remote and require intimate knowledge of the terrain — knowledge Dan built through decades of hands-on exploration.

Dan is not only a guide — he is also actively involved with the local rescue services, helping in search-and-rescue operations around the 7 Waterfalls (Tamarind Falls) and the Black River Gorges National Park. His experience in the terrain, combined with his First Aid & Rescue certifications, allows him to assist in difficult situations, support injured hikers, and contribute to keeping the trails safe for everyone. This real-world rescue experience gives guests an extra layer of confidence when exploring with him.

Dan Thomson has been connected to the Mauritian wilderness since the age of 8 years old. While most people know Mauritius for its beaches, Dan always felt drawn to the deep forests, rivers, and mountains of the island.
